Frequently Asked Questions

Do the scores update for games in progress?
For games currently in progress, all information is refreshed every minute. However, that does not necessarily mean the game info will change every minute. The frequency of updates received from each game varies quite a bit. Unfortunately some schools only update their data every 5 minutes or more and there isn’t much we can do about that.

Live scores are missing or incorrect.
Some schools do not always provide live updates so you may sometimes see games without scores or game data. In addition, some schools frequently forget to change the game information and send out updates from previous games. We do everything on our end to guard against these events, but very occasionally, incorrect scores or data will be shown. While it is almost always correct, we cannot guarantee accuracy for all games.

How do I set my alert preferences?
In the “Teams” view there is a button in the top-right corner labeled “Settings” which will present a variety of preference options related to alerts.

I have set favorite and watched teams and alert preferences but I still don’t receive any notifications.
When you first launched the CHN app, it asked for permission to receive notifications. If you declined, you’ll have to turn them on. Go to your iPhone/iPad Settings > Notifications and find CHN in the app list. Tap it and make sure “Notification Center” is turned on.

How do I add more than one favorite team?
You can’t have more than one favorite team, but you can add up to 5 additional “watched teams” for which you can receive alerts and have highlighted throughout the app. To toggle your favorite team and watched teams, swipe a team name to the right in the Teams View and tap an option.

I have more than one iOS device. Do I need to purchase CHN Premium for each one?
No. A CHN Premium purchase is linked to an iTunes Store account. As long as all your devices use the same account you will be able to “Restore” your purchase on each of your devices after purchasing it once. The iTunes Store will not allow the same product to be purchased multiple times from the same account so you don’t need to worry about duplicate purchases.

How do I access and dismiss the Scoreboard?
If you have CHN Premium and there are games on the current or previous day you can view a one-page live scoreboard with all the day’s games. On an iPhone, simply rotate the device left or right to bring up the scoreboard, then return it to the upright position to dismiss it. On an iPad, there will be a “Live Scoreboard” or “Yesterday’s Scores” button in the lower-left. Tap that to bring up the scoreboard, then swipe the scoreboard left or right to dismiss it.

Will the app have Feature X?
We are continuously developing the College Hockey news iPhone App, adding new features and improving usability and performance. If you have any suggestions, please let us know by using the e-mail address above or send us a tweet.

Tab bar buttons are unresponsive on launch.
Go to your iPhone Settings > Notification Center and find CHN in the list (likely at the bottom in “Do Not Include”). Tap it, select “Banners” for Alert Style, then launch the CHN App again. Once you’ve done this you can disable alerts again. This issue was fixed in version 2.0.1.

My app is crashing.
First off, please make sure you’re running the newest version of the CHN iPhone App. We are always addressing bugs as we find them. If you find a reproducible bug, please let us know. We also receive crash reports so we may already be aware of the problem, but we’re always happy to hear from you. If you are already running the most current version, the most likely reason for a crash is corrupt data. If your app crashes, the app will automatically attempt to re-fetch all data the next time it launches. If that does not resolve the problem, tap the “Help” button at the top of the Teams View, then tap the “Reset” button at the bottom of the Help View. If that still does not solve your problem, try deleting the app and reinstalling it. You can also use the “E-mail Support” button in the Help View to contact us and provide some diagnostic information.

If you’ve done all that and your app is still crashing, please contact us at the e-mail address above! We would love to fix your problem but we may need your help.

Where is the Pairwise?
Until enough games have been played, pairwise cannot be calculated. Until that point, the Pairwise view is not available. It will automatically appear when enough games have been played.

Why is there no poll in the app?
The primary college hockey poll is from USCHO. This is a College Hockey News app. Do the math. Besides, the app shows Pairwise once it’s being calculated and that’s far more significant than a pointless poll.

Is there an Android version?
There is a separate Android app project which can be found here.
